TORTIVE LIT is dedicated to promoting emerging writers and original storytelling. Our platform is a space for innovative literary work, connecting writers with readers and fostering a community of literary enthusiasts, especially in the world of theatre. We are committed to showcasing diverse voices and supporting the development of new literary talent.

TORTIVE THEATRE was founded in 2019 and was originally intended to be a co-producing arm of a regional theatre. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were forced to find new ways to develop audiences and engage with creatives.

We launched our #FlashFiction101 competition and that quickly became an international success with entrants from across the globe reaching over five-hundred a month. This led to our short story competition which again saw entrants from across the globe put their creativity to the test. Being a small team we were quickly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work that the success of our competitions created and we decided that we needed to take a break. During this break we worked hard on creating a more sustainable, cost effective and fair way to enable creatives to showcase their work at the same time as ensuring that we have the resources to be able to continue to provide an online home.

TORTIVE LIT is now run separately from TORTIVE THEATRE but the two remain linked through their ethos and main goals.
